We have been using vegetable dyes and have never been associated with luster, but the sap of the lacquer family of plants gives off an indescribable glow. It gives a glittering impression in spite of its black color.

Cashew lacquer alone produces a hard film. Adding a moderate amount of castor oil, which is silky and never dries out, gave it just the right amount of elasticity.
